Hi, my name is Michael Edmonds and I’m fascinated by how we can flourish as individuals and as a society. This interest started in my teens – as a shy, and socially awkward teenager I struggled to work out what my place in the world was, and how to interact with other people. Thirty years later, thanks to all I have learnt, I am comfortable with myself and where I am in life. On this website/blog I want to share what I have learnt.
I’ve had a long and interesting career path which has include roles as a scientist, researcher, educator and in management and leadership. I’ve read so many books and on this site I will share what I have learnt. I can’t say that I have all the answers, or that I ever will ( though I am constantly learning) but I invite you to take whatever you find useful on this site.
My current role for the past 4 1/2 years has been as Head of the Engineering & Architectural Studies Department at Ara Institute of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. Prior to that I spent another 15 years working in education. During this time I have seen the challenges many young people face and I hope the ideas here provide useful. I’ve also seen some of the challenges colleagues have experienced and I hope they find this site useful too.
